SCWW Is in the Black Again!

SCWW is in the black again!!!!…thanks to the generous contributions of her members, friends and corporate sponsors. We were able to retire the debt in late May, a full two months before our deadline. This feat couldn’t have been accomplished without your cooperation, and I am personally grateful to all of you.

Almost everyone in this country, as well as worldwide, has experienced belt-tightening strategies to get through these hard economic times, thus the pared down 23rd annual conference. SCWW bent, but we did not break as so many of our sister organizations.

Even though our conference has been trimmed from three days to a single day symposium, it’s still packed with timely, useful information, presented by industry professionals. And as usual, agent/author/editor critiques are available for purchase (novel, short story, poetry, query letter). This year they will be delivered by phone or video chat. In addition, there will be an after-hours social time to renew standing friendships and make new ones. For conference details, registration and critiques go to www.myscww.org/conference/.

Speaking of registration, there is incentive to make yours by September 30. Any group of four paid registrations gets the fifth one for free. Each group can spread the savings among themselves as they wish. Email Conference Chair Kia Goins (scww2013@gmail.com) to arrange and confirm your group.

Fall is an exciting time for SCWW. We come together for our annual conference and a new Board of Directors is elected. Your existing Board resolved at their last meeting to encourage nominations from each chapter. I sincerely hope your chapter will respond to this call. Please email me for applications (ginnypadgett@att.net). The collection deadline for completed apps is October 31.

I look forward to seeing you on October 26 at the ColumbiaMetropolitanConvention Center for the 23rd annual SCWW Writers’ Conference. Register today: $100.00 for SCWW members; $150.00 for non-members; $75.00 for students.
