An entry consists of four copies of each manuscript/poem and one cover sheet.
Named in honor of one of SCWW’s founding members, the Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Awards are open to all registered conference attendees of the South Carolina Writers Workshop Annual Conference.
Any entry that does not fully comply with the official Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Awards Guidelines will be disqualified and the entrant notified.
Entrant must be a current member of the South Carolina Writers Workshop and remain a member in good standing through the date of the SCWW Annual Conference in order to be eligible for an award. Members of the South Carolina Writers Workshop Contest Committee or South Carolina Writers Workshop Board of Directors are not eligible.
Anyone winning or placing in a category cannot enter the same category the following year; anyone winning or placing in the Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Awards two consecutive years is not eligible for one year in any category.
All work must be original and unpublished, except for publication in the SCWW Quill.
Members may enter each of four categories - Poetry, Short Fiction, Novel/first chapter and Nonfiction but may enter only one manuscript in each.
Short fiction must be a complete story. Nonfiction may be part of a longer memoir if the submitted manuscript can stand alone.
All entries must be printed on white paper, one side only, with black ink using 12 pt. Courier or Times New Roman and using one inch margins on all four sides.
Prose must be double-spaced; poetry may be either double or single spaced.
Each page should include the title and page number. The author’s name should not appear on the manuscript, neither in the header nor in the body.
Prose pieces may be no longer than 4,000 words. Poems may be no longer than 40 lines.
After completing the conference registration, please submit your Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Awards entry following the submission guidelines below.

Entries must be postmarked on or before August 20, 2011.
There is a $15.00 reading fee required with each submission. * The $15.00 reading fee is per author, not per submission. Please make your check payable to SCWW.
