Richard Garcia's previous books of poetry include The Flying Garcias from the University of Pittsburgh Press and Rancho Notorious from BOA. His new book is The Persistence of Objects, also from BOA. His poems have recently appeared in The Colorado Review, The Georgia Review, Crazyhorse and Ploughshares. His work is in many anthologies, including The Best American Poetry 2005.
He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers. He has won many awards for his work, including a Pushcart Prize and Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. He was poet in Residence for the Long Beach Museum of Art, and for the Gibbes Museum here in Charleston. For eleven years he was Poet-in- Residence at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, where he conducted poetry and art workshops for hospitalized children. He teaches in the Antioch University Los Angeles MFA Low Residency Program, and he is also on the staff of the Idyllwild Poetry Festival.
He lives on James Island, South Carolina, with his wife Katherine Williams and their dog Louie, where he conducts private workshops, both at home and on-line.
